Day 1 - Arrival and housewarming1st November 2005

First impressions!

We arrived at Lake Powell after spending 2 days in Las Vegas. Thanks to our dear friend Derek who had invited us to celebrate his 40th birthday along with a few friends, we had the most incredible lifetime experience ever!

We spent 2 nights and 3 days playing with our toys, getting into some challenging moments and just taking in the sheer beauty that no other place in the world offers...

The highlight of the fantastic unforgetable experience was sleeping on the top deck being rocked to sleep under the twinkling stars.

Day 2 - Exploring and getting into trouble3rd November 2005

We managed to navigate quite some distance from the Marina despite a problem with the hydraulics in the steering. I compensated by playing with the two throttles for each engine.

Even though this was by far the largest vessel I had skippered, we were dwarfed by the sheer size of the cliffs. You would step outside and look up at those 20 story facades and could not help but to admire just the beauty that nature had built.

The narrow passage sometimes brought those cliffs even closer with another houseboat making its way in the opposite direction.

We stayed in two different places each night, the last night forced by a broken propeller due to sudden strong winds.

Day 3 - Playing with the toys4th October 2005

On our last day, we played with our toys. It was my first time on the jet-ski, although a fun toy, I preferred the powerboat along with the company of friends onboard.

It is a trip that still stays in my memory as it feels like it was only a couple of months ago. These photos will help to jog memories of all the friends I met onboard especially our superhost, weekend organizer and birthday boy Derek who always ensured we were all having a good time... and well fed! I can still hear him ..."I have burgers and sausages almost done" calling out from the top deck.

It's not everyday that someone makes a lasting impression on me, but those who do remain with me for ever.

I thoroughly recommend this trip to anyone who wants an unforgettable holiday out of this world. Get a group of friends and hire a floating party house!

I hope to return and repeat this life adventure and look forward to meeting up with Derek.

Time for fun!

The best sunset I've seen in a while

Lake Powell's history goes back to 1963 when the Glen Canyon Dam stopped the waters of the mighty Colorado River, forming a vast blue lake surrounded by beautiful sandstone walls.

This magnificent, breathtaking manmade architecture - extends into both Arizona and Utah.

With more than 400 feet deep, 186 miles long and nearly 2,000 miles of shoreline, Lake Powell is surrounded by spectacular rock canyons with towering cliff faces.
